Dear Parents and Carers
It is great to be back in Term Four, my son and I have survived the HSC. I thank Anthony Kenna for leading our school in my absence and to our wonderful staff who have stepped up to support Anthony at such a busy time of the year. Anthony was so impressed by our school community and the sense of purpose and kindness so evident among our students and staff.
You will have by now received the information regarding the closure of our school tomorrow, we again apologise for the inconvenience to our families, the safety of our students is paramount. It has been heartbreaking to see the devastation of the fires in the north of the state and Queensland. So many people who have been rendered homeless and of course the tragedy of the loss of several lives in these small communities. Please keep these people and the selfless firefighters in your prayers and as the weather looks to be equally threatening this week. Please also be aware that the media footage of the fires may cause great anxiety for your children, being aware of what your child is watching and talking with them, answering questions they may have is helpful as children try to process these catastrophic events.
The sacrament of Eucharist will be celebrated in the Parish on Sunday the 24th November, with many of our St Mary’s students making their first Communion. This is such a significant event in the lives of children and the Parish and we wish the children and their families a wonderful celebration on the day. Thank you to Mrs Porter, Mr Kinch, Mrs Ann Foster and the Catechists from the Milton Ulladulla Catholic Church for supporting the families and preparing the children for this significant step on their faith journey.
It was wonderful to see the photos of our year 5 students visiting St John The Evangelist High School last week. From all reports the students had a great day with the Year 5 students from St Michael’s School as they got a little taste of what high school is all about. This week we have three students; Toby and Hamish Kinch and Tess Wilson who will be travelling to Wollongong to attend the launch of the “The Good, The Beautiful, The True. Student Critical, Creative and Reflective Thinking" 2019 SPLICED Publication and Website launch. SPLICED is a wonderful enrichment program in our school and the projects of these students have been selected to be included in the publication. A big congratulations to these students and Ms Emily McGregor who has worked with our SLICED students producing such creative work. To have three students included in this publication is a great achievement for our school.
Today is Remembrance Day, commemorating the cease fire on the Western front. It is so important that we remember the importance of acting selflessly and to never take for granted the peace that we enjoy in our country. Our school captains ;Leif and Marley represented our school very respectfully at the Service at Ulladulla Ex-servicemen's Club. Lest we forget.
I look forward to seeing every at school this week.
Yours in partnership
