Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term Two, what a year 2020 has been to date. We are so mindful of the impact that the fires and now COVID 19 has had on our community and our wonderful families. In times of challenge sometimes it is hard to find the lesson to be learned or the potential opportunities that are presented to us through such circumstances, it is difficult to be hopeful. The word ‘crisis’ comes to mind to describe this year in our local and global community, I offer you this thought. The Chinese character for crisis is made up of two symbols: the first ‘danger’, the second ‘opportunity’, if we can bring ourselves to accept this present danger, only then we can begin to imagine the possible opportunity and nurture hope. I have witnessed this in our school community through these crises, in the way that our community has continued to be positive and hope-filled. This is the message of the Gospel for us, the promise of Ressurection, our Easter story. Thank you for being positive and selfless, doing your best for your children and your community.
Our community had the opportunity to shine on ANZAC Day this year, in a very unique way. We traditionally have an exceptional attendance at the Milton ANZAC March, which was replaced this year with individual families holding their own driveway vigils. It was so heartening to see the beautiful photos of families making the effort to acknowledge the sacrifice of those who have fought for the freedom we all enjoy as Australians. Some of these photos will be included in the Milton Ulladulla Times schools’ page next week. On Friday, we will be holding a School ANZAC Service via Zoom at 9:15 am. We will include the link in our slides for the day.
Congratulations to our community for embracing our ‘Remote learning Site today. Thanks for your patience in helping us to iron out a few hiccups. Overall it has been a really positive experience and we hope that it has provided ease of access and supports you in supporting your child’s learning. It is really important that all children log onto the site each day as this platform will track attendance online. Enormous thanks to Mrs Gabrielle Peters who has been the creator and educator of our staff in this area. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us through Seesaw, email info@sosmdow.catholic.edu.au or by calling the School Office on 44552328, we are here to support you.
With remote learning in place for Weeks 1 and 2, we ask that parents let the school know if they intend to send their children to school for all or part of the week. This is to ensure we have appropriate staffing in place each day, we understand that all families have different circumstances and we want to support you the best way we can. We will be releasing a plan of attendance for our students on Friday from Week 3 on. This plan will be according to the guidelines communicated through our State Government and our CEDow Office. The system as presented to us is very complex and our main goal is to ensure that our plan will put the needs of students and families first without compromising the health and safety of all.
We as always we thank you for your support and patience.
Yours in partnership,
Laurinda Nelson
We have missed you being here to celebrate your speacial day.
