Dear Parents and Carers
To be a mother is a great treasure. Mothers, in their unconditional and sacrificial love for their children, are the antidote to individualism, they are the greatest enemy against war.
-Pope Francis
This weekend we will all be acknowledging the amazing and unconditional love of our mothers. Pope Francis offers his words of wisdom that mothers are potentially the greatest force for peace in our world, a big responsibility for us indeed. The month of May in our Catholic tradition is the month of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary, like all mothers wasn’t sure what challenges becoming a parent would bring, but her love sustained her son and her family. This week I was fortunate to attend the Principal’s Retreat, some of the most powerful words I heard during these days were; one way to understand God is like the relationship that a mother has for her children, giving them unconditional love and freedom to grow into themselves and to live life fully. Nothing can increase a mother’s love or diminish it, that love just exists at full capacity all the time. This weekend I hope all mothers, grandmothers and all of the special women in the lives of our children are celebrated with enormous gratitude for every tiny and significant act of selfless love they show their children.
We invite all mums, aunties and grandmas to join us on Friday for a special morning tea at 11:15am in the school hall followed by a special celebration liturgy at 12 Noon. Our wonderful P and F will also be running a Mother’s day stall on Thursday and Friday afternoons, please also remind dads that their children may need financial backing for this event!
Next week our Year 3 and 5 classes will participate in the annual NAPLAN Testing, last year these tests did not take place due to COVID restrictions. These assessments are government mandated and do provide significant data to identify the level of achievement and growth compared to all students and schools across the country. The best support that parents can provide is encouragement without pressure so each child knows that trying their best is all that they need to do. Good luck to all of our Year 3 and 5 students.
I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful gift of rain, I look forward to seeing you during the week.
Yours in partnership
Laurinda Nelson

On Tuesday 27th April, 24 amazing St Mary's runners headed to the Wollongong Diocesan Cross Country Championships held at “Willandra” Browns Mountain Road, West Cambewarra. The weather was perfect and students were very excited and a little nervous to get their races underway. I must admit I was pretty nervous and I think my heart was racing all day.
Our Representative team for the Cross Country Championships; Max B, Torin D, Alexander B, Anika D, Evie P, Tehya G, Cameron W, Jacob D, Tristan P, Georgie D, Alexandra W, Charli P, Hamish K, Brigum D, Matt R, Audrey S, Abby L, Faith S, Kristian P, Rylan B, David K, Charlize D, Zara C and Tess W.
Every student did really well and I was so proud of all of them. For the smallest school in the Diocesan we had so many outstanding results. A big congratulations to Audrey S who came 1st in the Under 11’s girls race and Hamish K, who came in 5th Place in the under 11’s boys. They will both go away on the 8th June and represent the school at the next level NSWCPS Cross Country held at Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek. We wish them the best of luck.
We had many great results at the carnival and I was so impressed with the students sportsmanship and courage on the day they represented St Mary's with pride. Thank You to the parent helpers that were marshalls we couldn't have done it without you Tara and Chad. Also thank you to the parents that drove their kids and others up to the course it was so good to see you all and supporting each other and being back at sporting events after last year.
