Dear Parents and Carers,
I am honoured to step into the role of Acting Principal for the remainder of Term 2 as our Principal, Mrs Laurinda Nelson, embarks on a pilgrimage in Ireland. In her absence, I am committed to ensuring that our school continues to thrive, upholding the high standards and strong sense of community that have been so carefully nurtured. Please keep both Mrs Nelson, and Fr Michael in your thoughts and prayers during their time of spiritual renewal, enrichment, and reflection.
As I begin this role, I am reminded of the words of the late Pope Francis:
“Education is an act of love; it is like giving life.”
This quote beautifully captures the spirit of what I have witnessed in our classrooms this week. I have seen dedicated teachers fostering relationships grounded in trust, encouragement, and high expectations — and students who are engaged, curious, and striving to be their best.
Some highlights from my classroom visits this week include:
- Kindergarten students are completely immersed and engaged in daily explicit phonics lessons, confidently using mini-whiteboards to show their understanding and to practice writing letters and simple words.
- Year 1 students are learning how to use noun groups to describe book characters in greater detail. By adding adjectives and specific information to their nouns, students are beginning to create richer, more vivid descriptions in their writing.
- Year 2 students are learning about split digraphs and vowel digraphs in spelling lessons. They are working together to conduct word sorts and make useful visual charts for the classroom.
- Stage Two students have been collaborating to explore natural processes and human activities that lead to soil erosion by asking questions, testing ideas, and applying their learning in meaningful ways.
- Year 5 students are creating mindmaps with adjectives and adjectival clauses to help build a greater understanding of the characters in the book ‘Crow Country’ by Kate Constable
- Year 6 students have been thoughtfully reflecting on their writing through the lens of success criteria and feedback, and setting clear, purposeful goals to improve their craft.
These classroom snapshots reflect a strong culture of learning — one that values resilience, celebrates effort and helps each child to see themselves as capable, valued, and full of potential. Truly life-giving.
Last week, our community came together to mark National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). A beautiful Liturgy, led by Year 4, explored this year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next,” which speaks to the ongoing connection between Australia’s past, present, and future. It reminds us that truth-telling, listening, and walking together bring healing and hope. As Reconciliation Week concludes, may we carry its spirit forward in our relationships and actions.
A reminder that students should now be wearing their full winter uniform, including the appropriate sports uniform on designated days. You can view our full uniform policy on our website here:
Uniform Policy.
If you require support with accessing any items, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
Finally, a reminder that tomorrow, Friday 6 June, is a Pupil Free Day. Staff will be engaging in Professional Learning focused on ‘embedding high-impact strategies to support student growth in reading’.
Wishing all families a safe and restful long weekend. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday 10 June.
Yours in partnership,
Mrs Julie Valentini
Acting Principal

On Monday, our students gathered in prayer and reflection for a Liturgy of the Word, acknowledging the Ascension of the Lord. This marks the moment when Jesus returned to the Father in heaven. Their reverence was evident in the way they participated, listening attentively, responding prayerfully, and embracing the significance of Christ’s promise to always be with us. Through scripture and reflection, they deepened their understanding of this sacred event, recognising it not as a farewell but as a call to live with faith and hope.
As we approach the Feast of Pentecost (Sunday 8 June), we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, filling the disciples with courage and wisdom to share the Gospel. To bring this celebration into your home, consider this simple activity: light a candle together and reflect on how the Holy Spirit guides and strengthens us in daily life. Invite each family member to share a moment when they felt God’s presence, reminding us that just as the disciples were transformed, we too are called to live in the Spirit’s light.
We continue to pray for Father Michael as he continues his pilgrimage. Father Michael was privileged enough to be at the Vatican for the recent Inauguration Mass for Pope Leo XIV. We are certain this pilgrimage is both faith and personally fulfilling. We look forward to welcoming him back at the end of August.
Yours in faith,
Dylan Anderson
Religious Education Coordinator
In Year 6, the students have been doing an exceptional job of taking agency in their learning. Each student has developed their own learning goals in reading, writing, and mathematics. We have also created a goal around improving learning habits and a personal goal.
In mathematics, we are learning some conceptually important skills that will help with the student’s learning in high school. We have been learning to add fractions, find the area of composite shapes, and understand the connections between the area of triangles and parallelograms.
In English, we have been learning about argument and authority. We have been exploring different sources including those generated by artificial intelligence. The students are now able to identify credible and reliable sources in comparison to those that are not. We hope this skill will help the students navigate a digital world that can be crowded with misinformation and disinformation.
Below is some of our work in Geography, Religious Education and some takes on the student’s year so far.
Mr Anderson
In Year 6, we get to participate in many sports, these include: the Paul Kelly Cup, Athletics Carnival, Beep Test, Cross Country, and the Swimming Carnival. The Paul Kelly Cup is a competition that the Year 5 and 6 compete in every year. This year we will be defending our 2 year title, trying to make it 3. At this year's Athletics Carnival we’re going to be participating in many events that we are currently practicing and refining in sport time. At the start of the term, we had our annual Cross Country, which saw our Year 6 peer, Evie Peters, go to the selection tryouts in Wollongong. Evie came 2nd at this competition and will now be competing in the MacKillop tryouts in a few weeks time. Go Evie!! We look forward to participating in more sports throughout the year. Our final year of primary school has been filled with memorable experiences and special privileges that make Year 6 truly unique. We've loved taking on our leadership roles, leading assembly, setting up sports events, and mentoring our younger buddies. The Kitchen Garden and discovering new books have added to the fun, along with helping at the infants AFL gala day. Sitting on the assembly seats, eating on the deck, and enjoying the little perks that come with being in Year 6 have made this year special. As we prepare for high school, we look forward to our graduation and celebrating all we've achieved. Daisy, Jemima and Evie |
