LIBRARY MERIT AWARDS: Evie T (Stage2P), Sean M (Year 6) and Tino M (Stage2C).
GOOD FIT BOOKS: K-2
This term we are using the acronym of I PICK to help guide our younger students when selecting books to read in the library and to take home.
This week we talked about purpose and interest and that books are like shoes.
Books like shoes need to fit our purpose and interest.
We had fun looking at a selection of my shoes, hiking, high heels and slides and talking about the different purpose of each pair of shoes and what was my interest when wearing them.
Encouraging your child to be able to answer why they want to read a particular book and what they are interested in will help them develop the tools to end up with a book that is a good fit for them. For example, do they want a book about a particular topic like Insects or do they want to read a book for fun?
This led to a good discussion about non-fiction and fiction, favourite authors and one Year 2 student was clear that he was interested in the fantasy genre.
After the mini-lesson students were more purposeful in their book search and on their way to selecting a good-fit book.
Over the next few weeks we will look at Comprehension (understanding) and Know (knowing most of the words).
Kind regards,
