PRINCIPAL REPORT
Dear Parents and Carers
Opening School Mass
Last Friday the new student leaders were inducted and blessed at the Opening School Mass. So many members of our St Mary’s Parish and School community were there to celebrate the beginning of the 2019 academic year.Joining together to pray, sing and celebrate the joy of new Kinder students, new families and of course Mrs Valentini and myself as new school leaders also. The students behaviour and sense of reverence were a credit to their families and teachers. It was very special to have so many parents supporting their children on such an important occasion. Congratulations and thank you to Mr Harding for presenting the year Six leaders so well and to Mr Kinch for orchestrating the Mass and leading such beautiful singing.
Student Leaders
Leadership certainly is a privilege and a challenge, I encourage our new Year Six leaders to consider leadership as being of service to those around you. I would like to share with you some of the leadership ideals and standards that I have set for myself and shared with our staff on the first day of term.
Leadership is not about about controlling people: it is about working with people and supporting them. It is not about being the boss it about being present to people and building a community. It is about letting the Holy Spirit guide you to be your best and most authentic self.
I ask for your continued prayers and support of our School leadership team and our St Mary’s Student Leadership Team also. We look forward to working with these leaders as representatives for the students at St Mary’s.
Meet and Greet Evening
Tomorrow night is our Meet and Greet Evening beginning at 6pm. We look forward to seeing as many parents and carers as possible to come and meet the staff and in particular visit your child’s Learning Environment. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents in our community also.
Kindergarten
A big congratulations to our Kindergarten students, parents and staff who have made it through the first full week of big school. It was a long and hot week for our little ones. It has been lovely to watch the anxious looks on the faces of children and parents slowly disappearing, as big smiles and confidence emerging.
A wonderful beginning for everyone!
I look forward to meeting many parents tomorrow night.
Yours in partnership,
Mrs Laurinda Nelson
