PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parent and Carers

Yesterday our Parish celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation, this sacrament of Initiation was conferred on many candidates including the following students from our Year 6; Sienna, Toby, Alexander, Callan, Eden and Kylah. This year Father Michael  was given special permission from Bishop Brian Mascord to bestow this sacrament on behalf of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, during the mass Father Michael made the point clear that this decision was up to the candidates. It was a great celebration for the families and the broader Parish, congratulations to each of the children confirmed. A big thanks to the Parish Sacramental team, Father Michael, Ann-Marie Wilson and Gabrielle Peters as our Year 6 teachers and Simon Kinch as our Religious Education Coordinator.

This Wednesday, our school will be marking Remembrance day at 11:00am, we will observe a minute’s silence in honour of all those who have fought bravely for our freedom at war, and to remember particularly  those who did not return to their families.

This week is NAIDOC Week, a significant period each year when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities come together to celebrate the achievements of our country's Indigenous Australians.“NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

The 2020 theme for NAIDOC week is “Always Was, Always Will Be!” this is a cathartic chant that one hears echoed repeatedly through many protest marches and rallies. Furthermore, “Always Was, Always Will Be” reminds Australia that we are not a young country. Aboriginal people can trace their culture back past over 65,000 years making us the oldest living culture in the world.

During the week there will be various activities happening in classes culminating in a liturgy on Friday morning then cultural enrichment activities. Sadly parents and community will not be able to join us this year, we will make our liturgy available via zoom.

This week details will be shared of our P and F Colour Run to be held on Friday the 27th November. Our wonderful P and F Committee have been busily organising this fun and fundraising day for our children. The money raised will go towards planting some beautiful new trees in our playground which were lost during the fires, funds will also go towards the revamping of our playground. It will be a great event and I have no doubt an incredibly fun event for all of our students, there is a rumour that maybe some of the teachers will also be getting a little colour in their lives also! Thanks to our amazing P and F for their tireless hard work for our school community.

You will have received information on Friday regarding the adjusted COVID restrictions, there is a glimmer of hope that we may be able to hold our Dragon Days Musical with a live, if limited audience. Stayed tuned for an announcement. I saw a sneak peek during the week and it looks like all the hard work of students, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Johnston have paid off.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Yours in partnership

Laurinda Nelson
