Today we have celebrated NAIDOC within our St Mary’s community, the theme for this year is ‘Heal Country’ which is particularly relevant for our local community after the devastation of the bushfires. Aboriginal culture speaks of ‘country’ as mother, it's not something anyone owns, it is something that owns us. Country, like all mothers, deserves our love and respect. It was such a beautiful celebration this morning and we were so pleased to have the students from the Indigenous Team at St John the Evangelist High School join us to perform songs and dances. An enormous thanks to Mr Muller, Aunty Chris, Aunty Jo and Uncle Rory for bringing the students down to share their culture. Locally we are so blessed to have Melissa Henry working with Uncle Phil Butler on sharing language and culture with our students and school community. Melissa and the St Mary’s students created this beautiful artwork that is in our foyer.
