Dear Parents and Carers
Tonight the Enrolment Night for the Sacraments will be held at the Milton Church. It is essential that all parents and carers who are hoping for their child to make a sacrament this year will be present. The sacraments are made by Baptised Catholics and come in the form of Reconciliation for Year 2, First Communion Year 3 and Confirmation Year 6. If your child is enrolled at St Mary’s and has missed making their sacraments please contact Simon Kinch as Religious Education Coordinator or Father Michael Dyer to arrange these significant life events.
The community spirit at our school is something that many visitors and new parents comment on when they first visit our school. The school response to the ‘Rising From The Ashes’ day at Ulladulla Civic Centre was evidence of this incredible spirit, so many helping hands in so many ways. An enormous thank you to our students, parents and staff who set up for the event, who planned and prepared, who manned our stalls and who helped us pack away. Your generous hearts are a testament to what Catholic Schools are about, Christianity in action. Such enormous joy in coming together to enjoy the day and to share our stories.
Our school also acknowledged the efforts and courage of the RFS in the special dedicated parade at the Milton Show. Our school was well represented with many students and parents joining the local community celebration, despite the wet weather it appears to have been a wonderful event. Thank you to Mrs Emily McGregor for organising the beautiful artwork that was submitted on behalf of our school and to our students who entered artwork and produce for exhibit.
As a school we have been so well supported after the fires by so many people, I continue to receive various offers of help from many individuals and organisations. We have had stationery supplies arriving from Darwin, offers of NRL/ AFL/ Soccer posts for our oval as well as donations from other schools keen to help. We are so grateful that we have been remembered and prayed for in our healing. Our children have designed thank you cards which will be sent to those who have offered the hand of help to our community.
Our jumping pillow is being replaced next week, I’m sure everyone especially our Kindergarten will be pleased to be able to be bounce around at break times.
Thank you to the many parents who have attended the Personalised Planning Meetings for their child over the last two weeks., the staff have benefited enormously from learning from you and your child about their hopes and learning goals. Research shows that children whose parents are involved in the school have better academic and social outcomes.
I look forward to seeing you at school this week.

St Mary’s was well represented at the Bush Poetry Competition held on Saturday morning at the Milton Show. We had outstanding recitals from Jemima C, Arabella B, Ella R, Louis R and Matthew R. Max C impressed the judges with his recital of ‘Benjamin Bandicoot’ by Banjo Patterson in which he was awarded 6th place. Xavier B recital of ‘Being Brave at Night’ by Edgar Guest was well received by the judges and he was awarded 4th place. Congratulations to all our budding poets.
During Drama in term 1 students have been involved in fun and engaging lessons to further develop their drama and acting skills. We have been playing warm up drama games that encourage students to come out of their shells and show their creative side. They have been involved in lots of stage work and performing in front of their peers whilst taking on different personas and different character types. We will continue developing on different character roles in the upcoming weeks in Drama.
Mrs Cooper.
Last Thursday a team of 21 students travelled to Corrimal Pool in Wollongong for the South Coast Regional Swimming Carnival. The weather was atrocious with constant rain throughout the day. However, this did not dampen the spirits of our amazing team of swimmers. I was very proud of all our competitors for their positive attitude, their team spirit and determination. All competitors achieved at least one PB (personal best time) with a special mention to Henry K who beat his PB by 21 seconds! Our Girls Junior Relay team (Rosie H, Audrey S, Frankie N and Abby L) placed 3rd and have qualified to compete again next Monday at the Wollongong Swimming Carnival. Congratulations also goes to Zara C who got 3rd place for 50m Backstroke and 4th place for 50m Breastroke and Butterfly. Finally, congratulations to Eden S who placed 4th in the 50m backstroke. Both girls will be joining the relay team at the Wollongong carnival next Monday and we wish them all the best of luck.
The school swimming team has been training hard over the past couple of months in preparation for this carnival. Many students have enthusiastically participated in weekly before school swimming sessions. A very special thank you to the parents for organising the training. Special thanks also to Mrs Collins and Mrs Treweek for their support.
Good luck to the team today swimming at the next level.
