Dear Parents & Carers,
This week we are celebrating the creative spirit of St Mary’s with our Monet and Morning tea on Friday at 9:30am. This exhibition and art experience is part of the parish Mission Week which is being held all week at various events and venues throughout the local area. Much of the art on exhibit is inspired by faith and the expression of children’s understanding of faith through the creative arts. What a powerful tool to explore the mystery of spirituality and to express the beauty and transcendence of God in our universe. We welcome the Mission Team (including the Missionaries of God’s Love) on Friday morning to meet our community, please feel welcome to come along and have a cuppa, walk through the gallery and make beautiful artworks with and of your child. We will conclude with a liturgy to celebrate creativity and the gift of art in our community.
Please have a look at the Mission Week schedule and join in the fun over the weekend including a special night for Years 5 to 8 on Friday night at the school hall for Activ8 from 6-8pm for dinner, music, games and fun. On Sunday there is a Family Fun Fair on Mollymook Beach at 2pm, followed by the Family Mass at 5pm at Ulladulla Church. It is a great way to meet other families and have fun as well. Thanks to Father Michael and his leadership team for their passion and enthusiasm to develop this week and take on the enormous responsibility of planning an entire week of faith and fun. This Monday our year 6 will be joined by the Year 6 students from St Michael’s Nowra to ‘Activate’ Retreat day in preparation for Confirmation on the 20th June. A big thanks to Mrs Gabrielle Peters for her planning and organising of this significant event.
On Friday, our Environmental leaders will be representing St Mary’s at the Regrow Conjola presentation. Our students have been nurturing these tiny seedlings for several months and now they will be made available to the residents of Conjola as they rebuild their homes and gardens. Thanks to Convoy of Hope and Kevin Cassanego from the project for enabling this initiative in our school.
I look forward to seeing you in our school soon.
Yours in partnership
Laurinda Nelson.

STUDENT ILLNESS / COVID SYMPTOMS -REMINDER
The Track
“Mmm, Waarp!” Ben’s bike screamed as he accelerated out of a corner, with dust and rocks spitting out of his rear tyre, leaving a thick cloud of dust lingering behind him. He continued steaming ahead, shifting up a gear, plummeting down the old tracks. When he arrived at his destination, anger and frustration crept through him. The track was gone.
Ben had mowed lawns, cleaned gutters and washed the dishes for a year to buy his neighbour’s CRF110 pit bike at the track in the bush out the back of town with his mates.
But now the track was gone. Destroyed. Never going to be there ever again because of population growth in town. Of all the bush to deforest, the government decided to build a residential estate, smack bang in the middle of the track.
Things were going to change.
That night in bed, Ben lay wide awake. Through all the frustration of the day, he couldn’t sleep.
He had worked for a whole year and what for? The jumps were gone. Where could he ride? Then it came to him. He was going to build his own track.
The next morning, Jack walked over to the little rusty shed in his backyard and fished out a shovel. He went through the gate that his mother had put there so she didn’t have to look at the overgrown mess that was the rest of their property. Jack knew exactly what he had to do because he’d stayed up all night designing and planning the masterpiece in his mind. So using the sharp edge of the shovel, he drew the outline of all the gap jumps, berms, whoops, hips and table tops. Then he started to dig.
At first, Jack thought it was going to be easy. It wasn’t. Digging by yourself all day every day for long hours by yourself, is not that easy. Dig, dig, dig some more, keep on digging. This was the routine he followed. Some days, his mates chipped in with the workload.
After three long, hard weeks of the summer holidays of never ending
digging it was done. Complete. Finished. Over the rest of the holidays, Jack and his mates rode on the track from dusk to dawn, racing and doing daring jumps and tricks.

Bikes Shouldn’t Go to the Skatepark
The last time I was at the skate park I had a stack with a bike. It hurt way more than a skateboard or a scooter. This is why bikes shouldn’t go to skateparks.
First of all, bikes take up a lot of space in a bowl or a halfpipe. So people
can’t go down ramps. Most people are afraid to drop in because you never know we’re those big bikers will end up when you're dropping in.
Second of all, there are bike tracks FOR BIKES not for skateboards or off-road scooters. If they go to the skate parks then I’m going to a bike track with an off road scooter and a dirt bike. That’s a threat.
Lastly, but not least, bikes and dirt bikes are the same apart from the motor. Bikes should have the same rule because they are as dangerous as a dirt bike. That’s why bikes shouldn’t go to skateparks.

Paper Cranes
Thin and flat, folded firm,
Paper cranes, twist and turn
Wind blows, time goes,
Cranes hang on the string, one by one they start to sing
Joy and floating in a line,
Through the clouds they start to climb,
Up in open space; on air
Flying around without a care,
The string snaps,
I hear wing flaps,
They leave, will we ever see them again?

Family Mass this Sunday
This Sunday our Family Mass will be at Ulladulla Church at 5pm. We will be acknowledging our Confirmation candidates and celebrating Mission Week in our Parish. There will be a BBQ and iceblocks for the kids after Mass. Please join us! If your child would like to read or participate in the Mass, please let Mrs Peters know.
Altar Serving
Last Thursday, a number of students worked with Mrs Peters and Fr Michael to learn about altar serving. We went to the church and learned about the special books on the Altar and the order of the entrance procession. Take a look at the photos.

200 Years of Systemic Catholic Schooling
On Monday 24 May, our school captains, Xavier and Tess accompanied Mrs Peters and Mrs Robinson to the Diocesan Mass to celebrate 200 years of systemic Catholic Education. They represented our school proudly and reverently.
Year 4 and Year 6 have begun a new program for Sport on a Friday. Rock and Water is a program that decreases bullying and depressive feelings, and increases self-esteem, self-regulation and social acceptance. It bulbs self confidence, self respect and self regulation. Take a look at a few pictures from last week.

THE STATE LIBRARY OF NSW VISIT
On Wednesday 2 June, The State Library of NSW visited our senior students and presented ‘FAR Out! Treasures to the Bush’. A history program.
This was a very interactive program where our students learned about communication in the olden days and got to dress up as people from the Australian bush.
